Frequently asked Questions

What happens at your consultation?

During your consultation, Dr Phil likes to get to know you on a personal level to get you feeling as comfortable as possible. We understand that going ahead with a smile makeover can be a big decision so we like to ensure that you are fully informed and understanding of the benefits of pursuing a new smile with Dr Phil Aesthetics.

How do porcelain veneers differ from composite veneers?

Porcelain veneers and composite veneers are both cosmetic dental treatments used to enhance the appearance of teeth, but they differ in several aspects. Porcelain veneers are generally more durable and resistant to staining over time. Although porcelain veneers are generally more expensive, they tend to provide a more natural and translucent appearance, closely resembling natural teeth. If you’re looking for something close to natural, they are an excellent choice.

Are porcelain veneers stain-resistant?

Porcelain veneers are generally resistant to staining compared to natural teeth; however, they are not completely stain-proof. Porcelain itself is a non-porous material, which makes it less susceptible to staining from common sources like coffee, tea, or red wine. While porcelain veneers are more resistant to staining compared to other materials, it’s still advisable to avoid excessive consumption of highly pigmented foods and beverages and to follow proper oral care practices to maximise longevity.

How long does it take to get porcelain veneers?

The process of getting porcelain veneers typically involves several steps and may span over a few weeks. The timeline can vary depending on the individual case and the complexity of the treatment plan. Dr Phil will be happy to take you through the various stages of the treatment and timeframes at the initial consultation. Some cases may require additional time for adjustments or the creation of additional veneers.

Do they look natural?

Of all the available materials when it comes to veneers, porcelain is undoubtedly the most natural-looking. This is one of many reasons that they are so popular amongst our patients. There are a number of reasons that porcelain veneers look natural including the ability to customise the shape, size and colour to match your natural teeth and complement facial features. Moreover, the surface of porcelain veneers can be textured to resemble the natural surface of teeth.

What is the full process?

  1. Firstly, we will invite you to our practice in Leeds to assess your teeth and ensure you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers. Based on this consultation, if all agree, we will then use the assessment to start the design process for your bespoke E-max veneers.
  2. In most cases, teeth whitening will be carried out in the second stage of the process. This helps to improve the shade of your teeth.
  3. At your third appointment, we prepare the teeth for veneers, undertake digital scans, and fit temporary veneers whilst the custom-made veneers are being made.
  4. Once we have your custom-made veneers made we will then fit the veneers for you. The veneer fitting is done with resin cement which helps to create a chemical bond between the tooth and the veneer itself to ensure the veneers are strong.
