Dr. Phil uses a variety of composites to achieve results in differing situations. He predominantly uses a mixture of Empress directly on white teeth to enhance the colour and achieve a long-lasting shine.

He also adopts layered composite bonding techniques whereby effects can be added into the composite to make them look like teeth.

Having teeth that we are unhappy with can have a direct impact on our self-esteem, confidence, and overall well-being. Fortunately, Dr. Phil Aesthetic Dentistry provides a wide range of cosmetic treatments, such as composite bonding, to help you achieve your perfect smile.

You may be a suitable candidate for composite bonding if you have chipped, crooked, or broken teeth. We always provide a consultation to assess your current dental condition before proceeding.

How long does composite bonding last?

The lifespan of composite bonding can vary based on several factors, including oral hygiene practices, dietary habits, and the extent of wear and tear. On average, composite bonding typically lasts between 5 to 10 years. Porcelain veneers can last between 10-15 years as they are stronger and more stain-resistant.

Does composite bonding chip?

Yes, composite bonding can chip under certain circumstances. While composite resin is a durable material, it may not be as resistant to chipping or breaking as some other dental materials, such as porcelain. However, we plan your case to reduce the chances of this happening as much as possible. Straightening your teeth before composite bonding helps to form a favourable bite to prevent heavy biting on your composite which can lead to chipping. Dr Phil’s advanced bonding techniques favours a reduced chance of chipping as the composite is bonded to the tooth in the strongest way possible.

What happens after treatment has been completed?

After your composing bonding has been completed, we like to ensure your results last for as long as possible. To achieve this, we provide a maintenance plan which usually consists of 2 check-ups and 2x cleans per year. However, this can be adapted to your schedule and designed in a way that works for you.

Can composite bonding fix gaps between teeth?

Yes, composite bonding can be an effective solution for fixing gaps between teeth. The bonding procedure involves applying a tooth-coloured composite resin material to the teeth, which can be shaped and sculpted to close gaps and enhance the overall appearance of the smile. This process is particularly useful for addressing small to moderate gaps such as those between your front teeth.

How long does a composite bonding procedure typically take?

Great question! The duration of composite bonding can vary depending on the complexity and number of teeth being treated. However, especially when compared to alternate treatments, the composite bonding treatment is relatively quick. On average, a single-tooth composite bonding procedure may take around 30 minutes to one hour per tooth. We will be sure to give you an estimated timeframe once we know how many teeth are being treated.

What is the full process?

  1. The first stage involves arranging an initial consultation with you where we will assess your current smile imperfections. After the assessment, we’ll let you know if you are a suitable candidate or if an alternative treatment would be more beneficial for you at this stage.
  2. In most cases, teeth whitening will be carried out in the second stage of the process. This helps to improve the shade of your teeth.
  3. At this stage, Dr. Phil uses a colour composite chosen by you to build up your teeth and create your beautiful new smile by hand.
  4. Finally, you come back for a review to ensure you are happy with the result and make any changes to ensure the result is perfect.
